Vērmane Gardens is one of the prettiest public parks in the Baltics States, and is located in the center of Riga, Latvia. It was one of my favorite places in the city, and it made for a day of relaxing strolls, a canal boat ride, and plenty of people watching while eating my bag of Laima sweets.
Within this gorgeous tree studded park there lies a two story windowed structure, and behind those windows is Biblioteka No 1. On the Sunday morning that I was strolling through the gardens, I had spotted Biblioteka and thought that I should check it out after my morning walk. I had no idea that this posh and tasteful restaurant was offering a Champagne Sunday Brunch Buffet. I had just walked right into it- Thank you intuition and thank you Universe!

Reservations are recommended, I learned that when I had checked myself into this swanky restaurant. All of the seating inside the outdoor shaded patio were reserved, but there was plenty of comfortable seating inside. I was offered a seat on a plush green tufted chair at a table with a lovely window view. This was the beginning of something beautiful.

🍽 I have resided in Las Vegas since 2010, and if there is something that I have learned, it is the art of a good buffet. Although Sin City is known for their mega buffets, that does not mean they are good. I have found that a great buffet does not mean an enormous amount of average tasting food, but it is comprised of a nice selection of food made well. Those are few and far between in Vegas, but not so much in Riga, Latvia. Biblioteka No 1 puts on an impressive and gourmet champagne brunch, that I still think about.
– Champagne Brunch Buffet –
Piper-Heidsieck Champagne

I was not seated for more than a few minutes when an attentive and friendly server was pouring me a glass of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne. He was so quick that I could not take a photo of the brilliant pour, just the inspiring red and gold label. Biblioteka No 1 had certainly impressed me by offering Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, as it used to be a favorite of the late Marilyn Monroe.
Oysters
Two styles of fresh oysters were served at this fine feast; raw oysters over a bed of ice, and a classic Oysters Rockefeller.
Skewered Shrimp

Towering above the silver dish of raw oysters over ice, was a serious stack of grilled skewered shrimp. They were a splendid seafood addition to the oysters, and were cooked to a flavorsome perfection.
A Buffet of Savory Bites
Buffet of canapes, toasts, salads, fresh breads and charcuterie.
As far as upscale Brunch Buffets go, Biblioteka No 1 created a well thought out one. Their main table offered a selection of light bites such as hors d’oeuvre, canapes, fresh vegetable salads, and antipasto. I enjoy little bites of food, and I typically like to just taste different dishes. This buffet style gave me the opportunity to create several tasting plates of small well-made bites.
Hot Dishes

In a typical mega buffet hot food is served in large communal chafing pans, which have been sitting under heat lamps for awhile. Taking into consideration that Biblioteka was serving an ‘all one can eat’ style brunch, offering their hot items as ordered dishes was nicely planned. It ensured that you received a well plated brunch dish such as Shakshuka, Eggs Benedict, or the Beef Roast with Yorkshire Pudding. The ‘Hot Dishes’ were included with the full price as well, which made this brunch a more cultivated way of enjoying a Sunday brunch.
Dessert Table
Always save room for dessert, or in my case I grow that second stomach, which is made for the sweet ending of any meal. Biblioteka offered a marvelous Dessert Table with decadent cake slices, chocolatey brownies, fun cake pops, tasteful tartes, and many other dessert favorites.

All the fancy little desserts that I had chosen were freshly created, delectable, and a tasteful way to finish my ‘Swanky Champagne Sunday Brunch Buffet’.
Pot of Tea

If you have read my food journals or restaurant reviews, you may have noticed that I drink a lot of tea or espresso at the end of a full meal. In this case, since I had just polished off an impressive buffet of gourmet bites, I figured a pot of tea was in order. Hot tea is very good for the digestion after any meal, and it is one of my favorites.
