This goes out to the lovers of fine chocolates and the connoisseurs of divine pastries, I share your passion and would never steer you wrong.
Café Gerbeaud has been a gastronomic delight since 1858, and is one of the oldest cafes in Europe. For over 160 years Café Gerbeaud has specialized in gourmet chocolates, traditional Hungarian cakes, and other fine pastries.
Stepping inside the saloon was a lavish step back in time with elegant chandeliers, Rococo style ceilings, and rich wood furnishings.
If it is a fine weather day, al fresco dining is a beautiful way to experience this legendary cafe. That is how I spent my time at Gerbeaud- sipping sparkling wine, eating cake, and soaking in Budapest.
I believe in visiting the oldest eateries in a city, since it sets a form of groundwork on the food culture of a region. Café Gerbeaud shows off the elegance of old Budapest, and is seamless with the city’s classic Eastern European flair.
The final eastbound stop in the sweet-tooth triathlon (After Angelina’s in Paris and Demel’s in Vienna), Budapest’s famous Gerbeaud coffeehouse is a neo-Baroque throwback to imperial times…
