Loches is lovely. I will always remember walking through its ever so charming streets, and thinking how it felt- like stepping into a book of French Impressionist paintings. The canals running through the sweet neighborhoods, the floating lily pads, the Weeping Willow trees, and the old castle that overlooked the town; it all felt familiar and nostalgic, it was love at first site.

The town of Loches is located in the Centre-Loire Valley, and is considered one of the most picturesque locations in Central France. It lies on the left bank of the river Indre, and at the foot of a rocky eminence where the Chateau de Loches (castle) overlooks the town.
The white stone castle of the Anjou family with its fairy-tale façade, was originally constructed during the 9th century. The Chateau de Loches play a major role in Loches’ overwhelming charm.

Loches has been certified as a “Town of Art and History”, and the “Most Beautiful Detour in France”. It is a definite must-see destination while exploring the Loire Valley. Spending a day or two walking through the cobblestone town, visiting the castle, or just exploring the captivating neighborhoods will be an unforgettable experience. I know it was for me, purely unforgettable!
