Although I am not a beer drinker, I have always appreciated it for what it was, and how beer has been historically important in societies. I have been to several breweries in my time including Pilsner Urquell in Czech Republic, which was a pretty cool place to visit. That is pretty high regards coming from this non-beer drinker!

The Pilsner Urquell Brewery is headquartered in Plzen, Czech Republic and was opened in 1842. This was the first brewery to produce the pale lager, which has become a world wide popular beer style. It is a well copied style, and more than 2/3’s of today’s beer is a pale lager style. Pilsner Urquell is the country’s most famous beer, it is also the largest producer and beer exporter in the Czech Republic.

I did enjoy the brewery tour, it was fun and educational, plus at the end we were treated to a cup of unfiltered beer. For you beer drinkers that would be like a glass of unfiltered heaven. As for this non-beer drinker, I took a couple of sips, and handed it off to my travel friend. He was more than happy to take it from my hands!

The Pilsner Urquell Brewery Tour was quite interesting, and a great way to learn about this beer’s unique story. On the tour, the guide educated us about the quality of the ingredients used, and brought us to the various brew houses from over the centuries.
I was fascinated with the historical cellars, and the huge oak lager barrels of beer that lined the walls. This is where we were offered a tasting of unfiltered Pilsner Urquell, straight from the barrel, while standing inside the historical cellar.

The Brewery tour includes:
