Searching for Nessie – Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands

Cruising the Loch Ness on a beautiful summer day was a highlight for me while visiting Inverness, Scotland. What would have made it more perfect was if we spotted Nessie. We did spot calm blue waters, an expansive sky, and the Urquhart castle which was good enough for me.

Greetings from Loch Ness!

I did not know what to expect when I booked a day tour with Jacobite cruises. I knew that I wanted to cruise along Loch Ness, and be in the location where the famed rumored Nessie beast was said to reside. What I did not expect was how beautiful this part of the country was. It was gorgeous!

You see pictures of the area- the green hills, vast skies and blue waters. Those online photos, magazine pictures, and tourist pictures do not do this lake justice. It was breathtaking, just breathtaking.

Jacobite cruises was a great way to explore Loch Ness in comfort. They offered different tours starting from the outskirts of Inverness. It was simple to get there, if you do not have a car. There are buses that leave the central bus station in Inverness, and go to the docks. The loading process was just as easy, but remember to exchange your online voucher for a ticket inside the offices.

The boat itself was very nice. It was well maintained, new, clean, and comfortable with a variety of seating options. We decided to find a seat at the top since it was a beautiful day. It is northern Scotland, and a beautiful day in the summer can still be chilly, so bring a light jacket or a sweater. There is also inside seating with tables, booths, and a snack bar if you want to view Loch Ness in warmth.

The tour takes you to the heart of Loch Ness with the option to disembark at Urquhart Castle. We decided to stay onboard, and still got lovely views of the castle remains. After the castle you coast back down Loch Ness back to where you started from.

Urquhart Castle

The whole cruise was a wonderful experience in the short time we were exploring Loch Ness. It was a definite highlight to our time in Inverness. I highly recommend doing the Jacobite tour along Loch Ness. You never know, you might get a Nessie sighting!
