Trixie Navarre

Have you ever walked into the Shops at Crystals located on the Las Vegas Strip, saw the brown wooden cage like restaurant, and thought “I want to eat in there”? I have many times, but just never got around to doing it until several nights ago. My friend decided to have a small birthday dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club, and it was a wonderful dining experience.

We enjoyed everything from the luxurious dining space, the great service, and the delicious high-quality dishes. The inside of Mastro’s dining room was an incredible space, it was open air and you had views of the many luxury shops within the Crystals Shopping Center.

For starters, I decided on the Rhubarb Gimlet cocktail which was shaken not stirred, and poured at the table. It was an incredible drink. If you enjoy gin as much as I do, this Rhubarb Gimlet is for you.

We ordered the beautiful Bread Service, which I highly recommend as well. It comes with a variety of fresh breads and butter, and is a nice way to get the appetite going.

Since this is an “Ocean Club”, and my friends and I do not mind sharing food, we ordered dishes for sharing. The ladies and I decided on lobster and more lobster! Since the ‘Special of the Day’ was an enormous 20oz Australian Lobster Tail, we decided on one to share, as well as the Twin Lobsters.

Both were delicious, but the huge Aussie Lobster Tail was magnificent. It was more tender and had a great texture to it, I recommend you ordering one if it happens to be the “Special” for the night.

My lovely friends and I also shared a couple of tasty sides- the Gorgonzola Mac & Cheese, and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Both dishes were extraordinary and I recommend each of them. The sides are sharable size, so keep that in mind. There were three of us, and we still had leftovers to bring home.

Then at the end, we had their Signature Butter Cake “Birthday style”. My friends and I heard fantastic stories about their Butter Cake, and they were all true! It was a very rich and delicious cake, served with ice cream and whipped cream. They do offer other desserts, but the Butter Cake is Mastro’s signature and it is a decadent one.

To top it all off, and before we departed I ordered a shot of espresso. If you have read my other food blogs, then you know that this is usual for me in what ever city or country. As for this dinner at Mastro’s, this shot was in my home city of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a wonderful way to end this superb dining experience.
