Budapest, Hungary – This goes out to the lovers of fine chocolates and the connoisseurs of divine pastries, I share your passion and would never steer you wrong. Café Gerbeaud has been a gastronomic delight since 1858, and is one of the oldest cafe’s in Europe. Stepping inside the saloon is a lavish step back in time with elegant chandeliers, Rococo style ceilings, and rich wood furnishings.

The final eastbound stop in the sweet-tooth triathlon (After Angelina’s in Paris and Demel’s in Vienna), Budapest’s famous Gerbeaud coffeehouse is a neo-Baroque throwback to imperial times…

For over 160 years Café Gerbeaud has specialized in gourmet chocolates, traditional Hungarian cakes, and other fine pastries. Knowing the history of Gerbeaud, I visited this classic café on my first day in Budapest. It was after my lavish lunch at the iconic Gundel Restaurant, which was another bucket list place for me to dine at. 👩🏻💻➡Budapest’s Iconic Gundel Restaurant

Sparkling Wine Pour

As the saying goes, “Good things happen to those who drink bubbly”. I have always found that saying to be truthful in everyway, especially on this day in Budapest. A glass of chilled bubbles, and a plate full of traditional cakes at one of the most famous cafe’s in Europe. Good things definitely do happen!
Gerbeaud Classic Cake Selections

There is no reason to choose on which specialty cake you would like to try. Gerbeaud had already planned on hosting cake lovers who could not decide on which cakes to choose from. On the menu, there was a cake sampler plate that was served with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. It was the perfect size for me, and it was a delightful combination with the sparkling wine.
All the cakes that I tried were delicate and delectable. They were very different from each other, and I enjoyed all of them especially the Dobos Cake. If you are looking to try their cakes, the sampler plate is the perfect way to go while at Gerbeauds.

This little guy arrived at the table too late, I had just finished my plate. Look at his face though, he was not a happy camper. Sorry, I was not expecting company! 🤷🏻♀️
There are plenty of good places to dine at while in Budapest, but there are also very special places too. Café Gerbeaud is a very special place to the country of Hungary, the world of gastronomy and in the hearts of dessert lovers around the globe- including this one!
